House passes do-it-yourself funeral bill
03/10/2010
A Minnesota House committee has passed and sent to the floor a bill that would give next-of-kin more options after a loved one dies. A body could be packed in dry ice instead of being refrigerated or embalmed, and visitation would also be allowed for a longer period of time. Heather Halen (HAY-len) says after her husband Gary died, they put his body in a pine box his friends had made, later had visitation in their home, and then a neighbor's work van transported his body to the cemetery.
