Racino, gun background checks on agenda

At the State Capitol today (WED), House lawmakers debate a controverial bill requiring background checks on those purchasing firearms at gun shows. A Senate committee also discusses a bill prohibiting employers from checking job applicants' credit history. House and Senate lawmakers take public testimony today on the agreement Democrats and Governor Pawlenty reached last week on extending General Assistance Medical Care past April 1st. The debate over the PolyMet project and other non-ferrous mining continues tonight as lawmakers examine a bill that would require that mining companies basically post bond to cover costs of reclamation and water treatment. There's also a Senate hearing tonight on a controversial plan to allow casino gambling at the state's two horse tracks. Some are eyeing racino tax revenues to help build a new Vikings stadium. (MNN)
